Foreign language learning plays a significant role in our multicultural environment. It is especially important for secondary school students, who learn two foreign languages simultaneously, which are usually English and German. The attitude and motivation of students is probably different in case of the two languages, but language learning motivation can influence and contribute to the success of language learning. The concept of motivation, its components and possible interpretations are examined in the first part of this study. In the second part, the studies and results of Hungarian researchers are presented in the topic of language learning motivation, which examined students of English and German. In the third part, motivation is studied through secondary school students of English and German. Their language learning aims, attitudes towards foreign language learning, as well as their instrumental and sociocultural orientations are examined.hu_HU
