Dolgozatomban olyan kulturális reprezentációkat vizsgálok, melyek szerepet játszanak Írország és a modern ír társadalom Magdolna mosodai múltjának és tapasztalatának feldolgozásában. Diplomamunkám tézise, hogy a témát megcélzó filmek, műemlékek, irodalmi művek egy új, poszt-nacionalista nemzeti narratívát hoznak létre és pótolják az egyébként meglehetősen hiányos történelmi dokumentációt. Galway-t, mintegy esettanulmányként kezelem és bemutatom, hogyan jelenik meg a Magdolna-tapasztalat emlékezete a városi térben és a filmvásznon. / In my paper I focus on cultural representations that play a crucial role in how Ireland and modern Irish society re-evaluates its past of the systemic abuse, more precisely, how they remember the Irish Magdalen Laundries. The thesis from which I set out is that films, memorials and literary works contribute to the emergence of a new, post-nationalist narrative and they also compensate the lack of archival evidence. I take Galway city as a case study and analyse how the memory of the Magdalen laundry is present both in the urban landscape and on the screen.
