The Role of Corticosteroids in Kawasaki Disease Therapy

Abstract

My thesis is an overview of articles about corticosteroid therapy for patients with IVIG-resistant Kawasaki Disease. Studies point to corticosteroid therapy being beneficial for the treatment of severe Kawasaki Disease. My thesis focuses on the RAISE Study. It showed that additional prednisolone improved coronary outcomes in patients with Kawasaki Disease at high risk of IVIG resistance. Further studies of intensified primary treatment for Kawasaki Disease in a mixed ethnic population is warranted to improve the generalizability.
