The Americanization of the Japanese Death Note Franchise
Absztrakt
The American version of Death Note published by Netflix in 2017 generated controversy and divided fans all over the world. The main point is that movies are both artistic creations and products on the market. Making them needs investment, and that investment has to be recovered, that is why American film makers try to own the adaptations, shape them according to their taste, Americanize the original so that it will do better on the market. The aim of this thesis is to elaborate on the Americanization of the Japanese anime, Death Note, to show what kind of strategies and means the filmmakers used and how the American movie is different from the Japanese manga, anime and live action films in terms of characters, story line and cinematic features.
