An Overview of Basic Similarities and Differences Between Second Language Learning and Second Language Acquisition

Abstract

Learning a language has probably been among the most important aims of humanity since the Babel confusion, but let us not be so melodramatic and let’s examine its practical motifs and advantages applicable for the modern man of our society. There are a lot of reasons behind one’s inclination to master a foreign language. One of the most convincing of these reasons is demonstrated by the following map, which shows us the countries and territories where English (the popularity of which I am going to examine and elaborate on in this thesis) is either the official or the predominant language.
