In my teaching practice I have used several volumes from the New Headway English Course multi-level series. Though the course books can be taught effectively, I find that very often the materials selected about America and the American people reinforce stereotypical images about them and develop a biased view about the American Culture in general Thus choosing the New Headway Pre-Intermediate Course Book compiled by John and Liz Soars (2000) as a case in the point, in my thesis I will study how American Culture is presented in the texts, images and pictures in this particular course book. My aim is to investigate how American culture and the complexity of American identity are presented in this language book I will also consider how to improve the cultural awareness of the EFL teacher.hu_HU
