A systematic review of statin therapy and other lipid lowering agents and their efficacies in regard to the elderly population. In this review, I have introduced lipid metabolism and storage in the body. Then, I briefly covered its significance in the development of astherosclerotic cardiovascular disease and introduced a few agents to manage this disease. In the discussion I went on to discuss lipid lowering strategies in elderly populations and compared various agents, primarily focusing on statins and their nuaned pharmacodynamics. Finally, I stratified elderly populations according to age, comorbidities and drug interactions and compared the efficacies of several statin agents and determined which agents are more suited to each elderly subpopulation according to their personal risk factors.
