To conclude, the topic of this thesis is the human body which, as the central motif, plays a crucial role in Steve McQueen’s feature films. This thesis examined the ways in which McQueen uses the human body as a means of representation, to visually portray social and political themes as well as psychological and emotional sufferings. The aim of this thesis is to investigate and identify the portrayal and the essence of the human body as a central motif in Steve McQueen’s feature films, namely, in Hunger (2008) and in Shame (2011). Chapter 1 begins with a summary of Steve McQueen’s art and with his film making career and explores some general but essential characteristics of the two feature films which were discussed and explored in this thesis. In chapter 2, I introduced the analysis of Hunger from the point of view of human body, its importance in and its portrayal through the life in the prison. Finally, the oncoming chapter the analysis of Shame, concentrated on the human body and its symptoms caused by a psychological illness, namely, sex addiction, and through this theme the hegemonic masculinity was presented.hu_HU
