| dc.description.abstract | This research paper focuses on the possibility of vocabulary building and developing certain language skills with the help of computers. The major aim is to prove that a computer programme called IFF is capable of improving not only vocabulary skills of beginner students but it can also develop grammatical accuracy. Ten beginner students’ performance was compared who have been learning English for 6 months. They were divided into two groups, a computer aided experimental group where learners were exposed to doing computer aided tasks without a teacher’s help and a control group where vocabulary and grammar were learned without the machine and only with the help of a teacher. The two groups were taught exactly the same vocabulary items. As part of the research differences of development in vocabulary and the accuracy of grammatical knowledge students acquired over the period of the course were examined. The students were required to write an immediate vocabulary and grammar post-test right after the sessions and a delayed post-test consisting of the same elements one week later. According to the results the difference between the pre-test performances of the computer aided experimental group and the control group was insignificant. In the immediate post tests, the difference between the scores of the experimental group and the control group on the vocabulary and grammatical tests was more or less negligible apart from a slight measurable improvement of the computer aided group.
