The aim of the present paper is to examine and present several aspects considered relevant in the assessment of cultural clashes in the specific situations of dubbing and subtitling. I also wish to devote special attention to humour translation. To illustrate the reflections a case study is conducted on five selected episodes (S03E01 – Wait for it; S03E09 – Slapsgiving; S05E05 – Dual Citizenship; S05E08 – The Playbook; S09E11 – Bedtime Stories) of the American sitcom How I Met Your Mother (HIMYM) and its Hungarian translation Így jártam anyátokkal, with the view to observe how the translator deals with the problems caused by the specific situations in questions, including sources of cultural differences and humour, creativity and technical constraints.hu_HU
