| dc.description.abstract | In connection with the topic of religion and the world-famous band, The Beatles, people who are at least a little familiar with the history of the band will probably think first of the infamous John Lennon quote in which he claimed that The Beatles were more popular than Jesus Christ. However, there are many more comments on religion, spirituality and God in the works of the Fab Four which are all worth having a closer look at because they provide a picture of the four Beatles which could easily alter the way one would think of them. Although all four of them took part in different forms of religious education in their childhood (Turner vii), as they grew older they turned away from religion. However, as their later experiences in their personal lives started to accumulate, they all tried to get an insight into the meaning of life itself and this quest of theirs can be traced in their art too. The way it manifested itself in words – to be more exact, in lyrics – shows how gratuitously and childish the topic of religion, religious morality, spirituality and the character of God was pictured in the first couple of years of the band's career and how it developed into a deeper understanding on the part of the band members as their hardships in their lives accumulated throughout the years, how the members' relationship to Christianity was affected by their blind approach to religion itself and how they were unable to understand the core values of Christianity and as a result turned their backs to it. | hu_HU |
