There has not been such a rough economic downfall in the United States as it was during the Great Depression. Even though the country had to face numerous challenges through its history, be colonial, racial, or economic, the 1930s brought a serious crisis to the citizens of the United States. As a consequence of the Great Depression, social conditions had changed. More and more people suffered from hunger, unemployment, and poverty which were devastating, bringing unprecedented economic hard times, especially after the prosperous jazz age. The Depression had an everlasting impact on the people of the United States and led to many more negative outcomes than positive ones. In my thesis, my aim is to explore the social consequences of the Stock Market Crash and the Depression and shed more light on how people’s life was affected during this period with a focus on the changes in the American family structure, gender issues and the mental development of children who grew up in this period.hu_HU
