“One day, Morpheus… We shall destroy you”: The Modern Myth of The Sandman

Abstract

This thesis examines the idea of modern myths in the Netflix television show, The Sandman. First and foremost, I explained the differences between myths, mythologies, religions, and folklore. After that, I introduced the new gods, the Endless. I also examined the Sumerian, Akkadian, Greek, and Roman mythologies, as well as the Hebrew and Christian religions. From all these categories, one or more characters were explored who appeared on the show as well. The reason for this was to show how Neil Gaiman included a variety of religious and mythological figures in his story while making them his own, therefore creating a modern myth.
