Oral cancers are the top 10 most frequent cancers worldwide with the prevalence slowly increasing, with the highest incidence and mortality rates in South East and South-central Asia. Their histology presents as squamous cell carcinomas and the major cause of it are chronic smokers and alcoholics. HPV infections and betel nuts are other major factors, with the latter associating in areas such as Asia. Prognosis is defined as the overall survival of a disease within a 5 year period and it can be summarised into 3 parts: patient related factors, tumour related factors and treatment related factors. The TNM Staging system and the histological grading system are the most frequently used to determine prognosis however, all factors should be included when regarding prognosis.hu_HU
