Absztrakt
Hulu’s The Handmaid’s Tale, the television series that was first aired on 26thApril, 2017 and is based on Margaret Atwood’s dystopian novel with the same title from 1985. The Gileadean society is dominated by men and centred around them, which oppressed women and deprived them of all of their basic human rights. The present thesis analyses different aspects of the world of Gilead in three chapters through the experience of the women living in the country. The first chapter discusses the dystopian version of patriarchal society in Gilead. The second chapter analyses the desperate need for repopulation and the methods that are used in order to achieve this goal. The last chapter is about the solidarity of women in Gilead and the resistance movement called Mayday.
