The true crime genre has become increasingly popular in recent years, with shows such as The Jinx and Crime Scene: The Vanishing at the Cecil Hotel and podcasts like My Favorite Murder gaining great popularity. This essay will be based on the question whether there is morality in treating true crime as entertainment. I will discuss the fascination for true crime, the fear of death, the ethical concerns surrounding the consumption of true crime media, and the need for a more critical and ethical approach towards true crime media. It will also explore the psychological and societal factors that contribute to our fascination with death and crime, as well as the responsibilities of media producers and consumers in portraying and consuming such content. Finally, it will discuss the obsession with true crime and how it can lead to desensitization and normalization of violence, as well as the need for a more critical and ethical approach towards true crime media.
