This thesis analyzes the video game titled Detroit: Become Human in the context of its storytelling tools and characteristics and its interactivity towards the players. The video game genre’s role in society, its potential as storytelling medium is investigated along with the game’s specific historical references and the three main characters’ development and available paths chosen by players. My analysis shows how the influencing elements in the game guide the players through the gameplay and how they add to the experience. I concluded that because of the many revolutionary elements of the video game, Detroit: Become Human can be considered as a representative of new narrative form in entertainment which builds on the audience’s impact on the plot rather than its message.
