Periodontal disease is a serious public health problem that causes tooth loss, impairment, and masticatory dysfunction. In recent years, significant progress has been made in understanding the elements that contribute to the occurrence of periodontal diseases, and it has been shown that diseases are infectious and occur in the presence of supra and subgingival bacteria plaque deposits. At the same time, abrasion, attrition, erosion of teeth, oral jewelry, toothbrush damage, chemical irritation from cigarette use, and radiation therapy have all been identified as local factors that lead to periodontal disease.
