Absztrakt
Diabetes mellitus is one of the most commonly occurring chronic, non-infectious diseases, potentially resulting in a multitude of serious, life-threatening complications if left untreated. There's been various treatments for this disease such as metformin for type 2 and subcutaneous insulin injections for type 1. Other treatments such as SGLT-2 inhibitors have been proven effective. The experiments aim to synthesize isochromane-carbohydrate derivatives that could potentially have both glycosidase inhibitory properties as well as act as SGLT-2 inhibitors using reactions oxa-Pictet-Spengler reaction and the photoinitiated thiol-ene addition reaction. Furthermore, these pharmacological and biological activities will be investigated with research collaborations.
