Absztrakt
Graves' disease is one affecting the thyroid gland. It has an autoimmune predisposition thus an intertwine between genetics and environmental factors. This thyroid disease causes hyperthyroidism meaning an increase or excessive thyroid hormones that goes on to have sympathetic effects and exact other consequences on the body systems. Given the severity and rarity of Graves' disease in children, our goal is to to recognize early the symptoms and implore better treatment given the limited therapy options and possible side effects. An array of tests ranging from TSH, fT4, fT3, thyroid ultrasound, thyroid Isotope scintigraphy to antithyroid antibodies detection with preference to TSH and antibodies against the receptors are employed. Antithyroid drugs are typically the first line of treatment, while permanent treatment options include radioactive iodine or surgical treatment which is a good option for patients with bad compliance.
