Stroke prevention in patients with atrial fibrillation

Abstract

This thesis aims to shed light over the newest treatment measures to prevent stroke in patients suffering from atrial fibrillation. Atrial fibrillation is a very complex disease with mutiple inter-relating causes culminating in rapid, seemingly disorganized atrial activation. If this dis-organized activity in the atrium leads to thrombus formation, stroke, a severe manifestation resulting inevitably in death of the patient, occurs.
