dc.description.abstract[I]n my thesis I am going to investigate what language and vocabulary learning strategies are used by a set of Hungarian – non-English bilingual and Hungarian monolingual students learning English. My hypothesis is that bilingual learners know and use more, and more diverse language learning strategies than their monolingual peers in the process of L2 vocabulary acquisition. In the first part of my thesis the related theories will be introduced: types of bilingualism and language learning strategies will be discussed. In the main chapter of my thesis an account will be given of the small-scale research I have carried out with 10 Hungarian – non-English bilingual and 10 Hungarian monolingual students who learn English as a second or foreign language. During the investigation special questionnaires were filled by the subjects participating in my research and these will be analyzed. In the Discussion part I am going to compare and contrast my own findings with the theoretical claims I found in the literature. Finally, the conclusions will be drawn and practical implications will be formulated.hu_HU
