| dc.description.abstract | There was a time in America when liquor was regarded as God’s gift to mankind and a panacea for almost every type of ailment. The last half of the eighteenth century was “the most intemperate era in the American history.” Prohibition seen from today is a highly debated question. Wets and Drys still argue whether Prohibition had positive or negative effect on the American society and drinking habits. One thing is for sure: Americans always had the appetite to drink alcohol. To see into the society we have to understand why there was a ban of alcohol in the United States, what roads lead to the prohibition, and what were the direct unquestionable consequences of the thirteen dry years. | hu_HU |
