In John Curran's film adaptation, The Painted Veil, the improvement of the protagonist’s roles both as wife and nurse are shown in a really intriguing way. The events Kitty Fane goes through help in shaping the woman’s personality. The film takes place in two different areas; the cleanliness of England and the crowded, unclean areas of the Chinese village are compared in many ways. Kitty’s connection to the disease itself starts at the infected Chinese village; she is shocked when she finds the dead body, and realizes the seriousness of the situation. She both has to solve the problems of their marriage, and survive the cholera.hu_HU
