Absztrakt
Personalized medicine approaches to therapy can be informed by our understanding of the fundamental biology of cardiac disease and the genetic propensity in each patient. HF is about to enter a new phase in which doctors will need to consider more than just single-agent trials in order to maximize patient benefit. Personalized medicine can be used to examine the mechanisms of action of conventional and innovative therapies by analyzing the basic biology of HF and the causal linkages between genetic factors. We now have a much better grasp of the complicated genetics underlying the clinical condition manifesting as HF as well as the Mendelian genetics of cardiomyopathies. Biomarkers play an important role in heart failure. They inform us of the mechanisms at play in particular forms of heart failure and help spot patients who are more vulnerable.
