The aim of this thesis is to demonstrate that films offer a great variety of contextualized language use, consequently they can be used successfully in the classroom so in the second part of my thesis I intend to test theory in practice. Accordinly, I have chosen a film, Love Actually by Richard Curtis, which is a popular romantic comedy. The film represents ten different stories, which seem to run parrallelly on the surface, however they are interlinked by the end of the film. The characters are from different age, sex, social status and cultural background, which gives a great opportunity to examine the different ways of language use by different people. For my analysis I aim to apply the devices of discourse analysis detailed in the first part of my thesis.
