The COVID-19 pandemic significantly crippled the healthcare system worldwide, and Obstetrics and Gynaecology emerged as an area of interest. This abstract summarizes the short-term and long-term consequences of the pandemic in this field. Obstetrics and Gynaecology care experienced immediate interruptions during the earliest phase of the pandemic. Fertility treatments and non-urgent procedures were postponed due to the lockdown and social distancing protocols that were implemented. Telemedicine arose as a solution to the difficulties associated with in-person consultations and prenatal care. There was a staff shortage as some medical professionals had to be reassigned to other departments due to the severity of cases. This also reduced the number of workers available in the labor and delivery units. Healthcare providers faced an elevated risk of contracting the disease, which necessitated strict protective measures, including protective personal equipment. Black and Hispanic women's socioeconomic situation had a significant impact. These immediate consequences highlighted a need to adapt quickly to protect patients and medical personnel. Long-term impacts on Obstetrics and Gynaecology became increasingly apparent as the virus spread. The psychological effects of pregnancy, nonpregnancy, and healthcare services were among the issues raised because of the rise in stress, worry, and dread. There were difficulties with postpartum care because of social restrictions. Future obstetricians and gynecologists were at risk because they could not obtain proper training and education. Technological breakthroughs such as telemedicine and remote monitoring have reshaped the field of medicine for the future . In addition, medical policies have been modified to highlight pandemic preparation and guarantee that this field will be better prepared for future emergencies. The effects of the pandemic on cervical screening programs, menstrual irregularities, pregnancy complications, the clinical course of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), and the risk of vertical transmission of SARS-CoV-2 will also be examined. It was noted that short-term effects of COVID-19 were worse than long-term effects, especially for pregnant women, as there was increased maternal morbidity and mortality, increased risk of stillbirth and fetal distress, preterm delivery placental abnormalities as well as care disruption that led to delayed screenings, reduced procedures and increased cases of anxiety for women and healthcare staff. Long-term effects tend to be more chronic and are still under investigation.
