This study highlighted the importance of teaching and learning writing. It is one of the four language skills with an equal significance; moreover, it improves the whole language development and students’ mental abilities. Furthermore “We learn to write if we are members of a literate society, and usually only if someone teaches us” (Brown 2001: 334). The second part of Brown’s statement suggests the responsibility of the education system and the teachers in learning writing. If teachers desire to improve their students’ writing abilities, first they should know how the writing process works in theory in addition to practice; secondly what difficulties students have in writing and what strategies they employ.
