Obesity is a crucial public health challenge of the 21st century. The built environment is an important contextual determinant of health outcome as it can trigger either healthy or unhealthy individual lifestyle behaviours based on the spatial availability, accessibility, and affordability of physical activity and healthy food environment. The objective of this study was to audit four different types of neighbourhoods in Debrecen, Hungary, and describe their characteristics in relation to physical activity and food environment. I used the Google Street View audit protocol tool to assess neighbourhood environmental features related to walking, cycling, public transport, aesthetics, land use mix, as well as representation of food outlets and physical activity facilities. Results showed that neighbourhood environment for physical activity and a healthy diet are heterogeneous in neighbourhoods. Overall, physical activity and a healthy diet lifestyle is promoted if the environment enables it.
