The analysis of vlogs from language learners' perspective

The purpose of this paper is to analyze vlogs focusing on language learners’ vocabulary expansion, motivation, and autonomy. The paper first defines and describes vlogs since they are a relatively new type of content. Then, various aspects of vocabulary acquisition related to learning words from these videos are reviewed based on the research done on learning new vocabulary in general. The paper also considers the merits of vlogs from the perspective of increasing language learners’ motivation and autonomy. Furthermore, the idea of keeping a portfolio of words learnt from vlogs is described in detail as well. Finally, the paper includes the analysis of a sample vlog in order to demonstrate how vlogs might help students learn new vocabulary items.
