In this PhD dissertation we study monomial functions of degree n∈N, n≥2 fulfilling certain conditional equations. It is well known that a monomial function f:R→R is continuous if, and only if, it can be given as f(x)=cx^n (x∈R) with some real number c. Let us suppose that f:R→R is a monomial function of degree n that satisfy the conditional equation y^n f(x) = x^n f(y) for all points (x,y) ∈S (S is a specified curve). Does it imply that f is continuous? We provide affirmative answers in several particular cases. However, for a natural choice of S, we obtain a counterexample. Generalizing the problem to a pair of monomial functions f,g of degree n∈N, n≥2 related by the functional equation y^n f(x) = x^n g(y) under the condition P(x,y)=0 for some fixed polynomial P of two variables, we find that in most (but not all) examined cases f and g are equal and continuous. | hu_HU |
