Tétel Korlátozottan hozzáférhető Medicalization: Policies and The Role of The Pharmaceutical IndustryAl Bakri, Deema; Bánfalvi, Atilla; DE--Népegészségügyi KarMedicalization is the process of treating previously nonmedical conditions as medical ones. With medicalization, more people who are physically or mentally deviant outliers from the average population are diagnosed with diseases possibly leading to more health inequalities. Mental health and sexual health are more vulnerable to medicalization. The medicalization of natural physiological processes that occur to females like menstruation, childbirth, and menopause further sets social control on females’ bodies. The aim of this study is to provide an understanding of medicalization and to reflect on and emphasize the importance of the role of the pharmaceutical industry and policies to medicalization.
