Tétel Korlátozottan hozzáférhető Colonialism and economic development in the developing world: The case of NigeriaUdongwo, Emediong Godwin; Erdey, László; DE--Gazdaságtudományi KarThe intention of this paper was to explain the ills of colonialism on economic development, especially in the developing nations using Nigeria as a case study. The focus was largely on Africa because majority of the world’s developing nations are in Africa, but also because the colonial system in Africa differed greatly from that of other regions like Asia or the United States for example. The conclusion drawn in this paper is that Africa, and Nigeria in particular, with its vast human and natural resources, ought to be a key player in the global economy today. Unfortunately, due primarily to the colonisation the continent suffered, it is the most impoverished and underdeveloped region in the world today. To get out of this rot and fully achieve its potential, the continent needs to sever its dependence on the West and pursue economic and political policies that are void of Western influence.Tétel Korlátozottan hozzáférhető Regional economic integration: A case study of the New Economic Partnership For Africa's Development (Nepad)Olupona, Jennifer; Márkus, Ádám; DE--Gazdaságtudományi KarThere are significant processes in Africa quest for regional integration although it is proceeding very slowly. On the whole it is imperative for Africans to be clear and have consensus on what they understand by regional integration and also to define or redefine it in a way that best serve them. Regional integration anywhere in the world cannot be achieved by mere setting up frame works and signing protocols and treaties as the process of integration can never be without challenges but the benefit of it is fundamental to Africa growth and development as it is accruable to long term while its cost will be met short by member countries. These challenges of consolidating regional integration have shaped the responses and commitments of Africa leaders having recognized the changing world requires greater collective actions and have therefore embraced deeper regional integration. There were 70 respondents who were consulted for the research using the questionnaire method through the internet. The questions raised were structured and closed questions which allowed for choosing any of the options provided as responses. The research was carried out to examine the impact of regional economic integration in Africa using the NEPAD initiative.Tétel Korlátozottan hozzáférhető Underdevelopment in Africa - The case of NigeriaBabatunde, Emmanuel; Erdey, László; DE--Gazdaságtudományi KarThe overview of this project is to examine why Nigeria has remained underdeveloped considering the fact that Nigeria is blessed with a lot of natural and human resources. This research paper aims to analyze the level of underdevelopment in Africa by using Nigeria as the case study because Nigeria as popularly referred to is the giant of Africa. Also, the causes, effects and possible solutions will be examined. In this paper we will not only examine underdevelopment in a myopic manner but rather in a holistic manner with a view to providing 21 century solutions to this problem that has been affecting the whole continent of Africa especially Nigeria as a country for decades upon decades. In this paper most of our analysis will be based on a 10 year period which is from 2008-2018 except in a few cases where we have refer back to a longer period. Also data gotten are from relevant sources like online journals and publications, World Bank, UNDP, National Bureau of Statistic.
