    Hatékonyan hatni az emberekre
    (2022-11-17) Krémer, Balázs
The economic and political crises of the last two decades have been greatly influenced by the fact that, impacted by manipulative effects, instead to follow their rational judgements people have made their decisions under the influence of emotional and instinctive temtation, deception and manipulation. So far, these manipulative influences dominate contemporary commercial or populist political communication. The paper below shares the author’s hesitation that, while non-rational factors bias from rational arguing and reasoning, both in decision-making and in communicative impacts on the other person inevitably present, is it acceptable to manipulate the users/clients by assisting professionals/social workers while exercising influence on decision-making of their clients? And if so, under what conditions, what specific constraints could be exercised such impacts and „professional power”? Likewise, when and what can and should be done to immunize clients against manipulation, to mitigate manipulative effects, to „gain back” rational mind and „empower” clients to follow rational consideration and make wiser decisions? The article does not undertake to provide „only” true and correct answers, rather gives insights and tries to provoke its reader to contribute to clarifying this important issue.

Utópia és társadalomtudomány – Értelmezés a Fahrenheit 451 című könyv nyomán
    (2022-12-31) Dudik, Benedek
Utopian and dystopian works have traditions hundreds of years, but their golden era did not begin until the 20th century. The genre is very often depicted as a literary genre, but in reality it is much more than simple fiction. These novels are as much social science and social theory writings as they are works of phantasmagoria. In my writing, I strive to explain this line of thought based on Ray Bradbury’s 1953 novel Fahrenheit 451. In the course of my work, following the fictional story of Guy Montag, I intend to present the peculiarities of the genre, its social science relations and its relationship with our contemporary society, in parallel with other dystopian works of the 20th century.

művi abortusz reprezentációja a magyar online médiában
(2020-03-31) Beáta, Magda, Nagy; Katalin, Huszár; Zsuzsa, Kaló; Adrien, Rigó
This study focuses on how induced abortion is represented in the Hungarian online media in relation to the reception of the public debate on the new Polish abortion law. The study was aimed at revealing the major themes, the embedding conceptual network and the framing of induced abortion in the online press. Since the press is an essential influencing factor of public opinion due to its broad publicity, research should focus on the characteristics of the discourse in whose space the concerned individuals form their views and make decisions on abortion. A thematic analysis of relevant press releases revealed eight major themes that framed abortion in a specific manner: thematization of induced abortion as a social/demographic issue; legislative issues of; and attitudes towards, abortion; abortion as an act of (physical) self-determination; contents related to the abortion decision; to its causes and consequences; and depiction of women choosing abortion. Furthermore, the analysis revealed the themes most frequently associated with abortion and potentially related themes typically not associated with it.

Intersectionality as an inequality conception or a particular perspective was already introduced to the readers of the Metszetek in 2014. In this study I undertake to review some methodological approaches to intersectionality. Moreover, I strive to make an effort to emphasize the adaptibility of intersectionality. Based on the new tendency which has been noticable recently in the inequality dimensions. I delineate, this tendency has completely transformed the focus away from an overemphasis on gender equality towards those suffering multiple, complex forms of discrimination. Many of the feminist scholars deal and dealt with the connection to inequality dimensions (principally race, class and gender). Necessary to pinpoint that indeed intersectionality does not command an unitary definition. A vast number of the international feminist scholars created their own intersectionalty definition, from which I am going to underline some. From among the methodological approaches I focus on Choo and Ferree’s intersectional statement; “Inclusion-centered interpretations, Process-centered models, Systemic intersectionality: Institutional interpenetration”. In this paper I announce two sociological studies that were undertaken using intersectionality method. Finally a summary is presented that undelines why it is worth scholars exploiting intersectionality as a methodology?

The collection managed by the Voices of the 20th Century Archive and Research Group offers unique opportunities for social researchers. Due to the nature of the march of time, a seemingly endless series of one-time, unrepeatable and irreclaimable moments awaits the masses of researchers so that they take the old research with a new approach and a fresh perspective.  The collection does not only provide a chance to quote and refer to the research materials that have remained from the 20th century. We can plan to re-analyze or even to continue or repeat them. Researchers maneuvering through the restrictions of state socialism have left us a legacy that deserves special attention. I believe that these researchers deserve attention looking back even from the 21st century, and that their research should form the basis of today’s research.  As a result of the change of regime, social environment and everyday life have changed significantly. Countless aspects of the transformation affecting the whole of people’s lifestyle have remained unexplored to this day, although studying and processing them would be urgently needed. The Orion research, commissioned by the Hungarian Academy of Sciences and led by Judit H. Sas, is one of the treasures of the archive which offers sources for researchers dedicated to the field of the life of workers. In my study, I give an account of my most important personal practical experiences, from the sorting and digitization of original source materials written by typewriter to the partial repetition of research.

The purpose of this study is to examine, in what extent the mainstream approaches of scientific theories can be applied on the field of the value-research. Therefore, I will examine these models through the lense of scientific philosophical approaches of 20th century. Of the three most significant philosophical theory (Popper’s falsification theory, Kuhn’s paradigm theory, and Imre Lakatos’s theory of scientific research programs), I apply Lakatos’s theory, since it fits the best to explain, how parallel research streams emerged on the field of value research. In this study I strive for conciliate Lakatos’s program and the three significant value models. In the scientific research program theory Lakatos found that many research programs coexist simultaneously. Each has a hard core or negative heuristic (as Lakatos calls it) of theories immune to any revision surrounded by a protective belt or positive heuristic of malleable theories. Every research program vies against others to be most progressive. In my opinion the core of the program is the value definition itself, which is used by the different researchers in the field of value studies. This value definition barely changed during the past few decades. On the other hand, there are numerous value models aimed to assess people’s value system. These models can be considered as the protective belt revolving around the hardcore definition. The aim of this paper is not to emphasize Lakatos’ theory from the philosophical approaches of science, but to examine value research through a philosophical eye. This approach also can ease the communication between the value research by exploring the common core of them.
